A reporter for Britain’s Press Association wire service has been arrested on suspicion of hacking into the voicemails of celebrities. Scotland Yard said that it had questioned Laura Elston about allegations that she had intercepted telephone calls in violation of British law. Her arrest appeared to signal that police are widening their investigation of voicemail hacking, although they have maintained that it is limited in scope to the British tabloid News of the World. It was not known whether Elston ever worked for the Sunday tabloid. Last week they arrested another female journalist, Terenia Taras, on similar charges. Taras is the ex-girlfriend of a News of the World former assistant editor.
